Darcie Anne Richardson Ph. D., is a graduate of Pacifica Graduate Institute, located in Carpinteria, CA, where she earned her doctorate in Depth Psychology with an Emphasis in Somatic Studies. She currently works with groups and individuals to explore the dynamics of facial reflection as a transformative practice. Utilizing the Mirroring Self, Mirroring Soul™ praxis she developed, Darcie works with clients to explore that which resides beneath the surface of the face that one shows to the everyday world. Though an amalgamation of the exploration of the face in the mirror, Active Imagination, and creativity, Darcie encourages the development of invaluable communication tools and bridges to unconscious processes.
Darcie has practiced extensively in the Dream Tending tradition with Stephen Aizenstat, Ph. D. and embraces the the practice of Dreamdancing as taught by Tina Stromsted, Ph. D., among other transformative processes. In addition to working with facial reflection, Darcie has dedicated herself to exploring alternative modalities for healing from acquired brain injury. As a result of her recovery from Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) in 2005, she came to believe that healing options needed to expand beyond Western medicine. It was this passion that led Darcie to Dream Tending in 2005, and ultimately, to Pacifica Graduate Institute. TBI, dream, neuroscience, movement and healing were the thrust of her studies and subsequent interests. Before her accident, Darcie worked as an Elder Mediation Program Manager, trainer and mediator in Olympia, WA, as well as in her hometown of Seattle. She assisted clients in resolving interpersonal, community and family conflict, as if in preparation for the conversations with the unconscious that would arise as she practiced her future vocation based in somatic depth psychology. Darcie's dissertation, which is called "Mirroring Self, Mirroring Soul: A Depth Psychological Exploration of the Face in the Mirror," is currently available through ProQuest. |
I think of myself as a Steward for the images, themes and the patterns that arise from those I work with.
I am interested in the integration of the mind, body and imagery as a healing modality. Neuroscience tells us that the brain influences the body, and the body influences the brain. It is this conversation that most deeply influences my work. I am captivated by imagery reflected within the mirrored surface. I am exploring and practicing how it can be used as a tool for healing through heightened somatic awareness, movement, active imagination and art. I challenge the Cartesian, scientific paradigm of the past 200 years and invite remembrance of what indigenous cultures have always maintained – we are one within our bodies, and one within the Earth body. It is in the language of this awareness that I am most inspired to work with myself and with others. |
